At the beginning of the summer, on 15th July 2022, the band Patria from the extreme south of Brazil released their seventh full-length entitled Hexerei. Approximately 45 minutes of ode to the ’90s, in the most precious style of Patria that featured special guests such as drummer Leonardo Pagani (Mysteriis, Le Chant Noir, Demonic Harvest), Demon Fog (Songe d’Enfer) and Lembetu (Loits). The album was fully received, and after some time working in the territories of the melodic BM, Patria returned to her raw roots and reignited the flame of the 90s without losing the modern tone. So the guys walked between the classic and the modern, producing an album of quality, both musical and lyrical. The album musically alternates between rough ’90s riffs and more melodic tones. There are a good variety of extreme metal approaches here, including explosive attacks and atmospheric ones; the synthesizers don’t steal the show (thankfully) but give the melody and draw the dark and sometimes ethereal atmosphere. Hexerei is a good album that came add positively the discography of these veterans and stab the heart of every metalhead. A good choice for your 2022 album list.
Recently, two days ago, the band released on the YouTube channel Black Metal Promotion, a music/video of the third track of their album Hexerei. Archetypes slow down from accelerated insanity and display a tone of triumph that resonates with the Greek classics.
The video is excellent! Archetypes feature a couple of guest appearances from Loits vocalist Lembetu. The music video is a production of Head Label Audiovisual, an agency led by Walter de Andrade, who was responsible for the camera, direction and post-production. We had the actor Valber Rodrigues performing with fantastic characterization, with the help of the makeup artist Wanessa Brazil and the costumes by Leo Zincone.
The band comments: “Archetypes has lyrics inspired by the book Enuma Elish, the oldest written myth about the creation of the gods, under the Babylonian cosmological view. The myth depicts Tiamat as a giant serpent, while Marduk, with his vast arsenal, faces several battles to defeat her. After his victory, Marduk becomes the leader of the gods by acclamation and splits Tiamat’s corpse into two parts, the upper half becoming heaven and the lower half becoming earth. So he creates humanity with his blood and bones. The Enuma Elish, known as the seven tables of creation, is considered by scholars to be the primary source material for the book of Genesis. When the seven tablets were discovered, evidence indicated that they had been used in a “ritual”, meaning that it was recited during a ceremony.”
In the video, the band illustrates this story more broadly and subjectively, also bringing a kind of sociopolitical criticism, showing that these ancient thoughts and myths can still find echoes in real life today and in different ways.
