So here are the best black metal albums of July 2022. Yes, for some people, there is a considerable delay. Well, this is what happens to someone with multiple commitments, and to be honest, what is good has no date to be mentioned.
Featured EP
Zorya – Escapism
Release Date: 4th July 2022
Label: Self-Released
Although the list is composed of the best black metal albums of the month, sometimes I make exceptions to terrific EPs, and in July, it was time for Zorya. Created in 2019 as a one-man band, in the figure of Jan Oblak, his third EP, Escapism, was released on the 4th of July. I have followed the band’s evolution since the first release, and I can confidently say that Escapism surprised me and exceeded my expectations. Composed of only two tracks (which is a shame), this EP is shows dedication and maturation in Jan Oblak’s career;

Escapism presents a bleak and melancholy atmosphere; the vocals are heavy, frozen, and stiff and express an appealing veil of mourning. The instruments in this work are cleaner and more pleasant to hear, bringing a perfect balanced combination with the vocals.
Even so, the EP presents only two tracks, they are captivating and full of feelings that make me think that a full-length will soon knock on the door; and will be most welcome. What a satisfaction; it fills me with emotion to have followed this dedicated and talented musician from the beginning. Thank you and congratz, Zorya!

… And now, the Best July’s Black Metal Albums
GOLGATA – Ur eld och aska
Release Date: 7th July 2022
Label: Satanath Records/Ketzer Records
Satanath Records always presented “hidden in plain sight” gems of black metal. It wouldn’t be different with the Swedes of GOLGATA. Since the first full-length, Skam, the band has masterfully combined intense and raw black metal with atmospheric, poetic, and dark melodies. Now, GOLGATA returns with their third album, Ur eld och aska. An album made with varied narratives and sound layers that combine elements of doom metal, death, thrash, atmospheric black metal and hints of symphonic black metal. Lyrically the tracks explore life journeys and humankind’s diversity in seeking a better life.
Ur eld och aska (Through fire and ashes) is hypnotically captivating, a Swedish gem of unparalleled quality. Excellent album! I Highly recommend it!

Au milieu de l’hiver is a graceful album by Nostalghia, a one-man band from Mexico. It’s the fifth album in the band’s discography and the second released this year, 2022. On March 7th, Alex Becerra, the talented and prolific multi-instrumentalist behind Nostalghia, released his fourth album. Olvido has a positive reception by fans and critics; The album has engaging and inspiring melodies with diverse instrumentation that creates an ethereal and unique atmosphere.
Now it’s Au milieu de l’hiver’s turn; With harmonious contrasts between contemplative post-black metal and the violent, dark metal of pure black metal, this album is an expression of abrasive and enveloping melodicism. Necessary in your collection!

Black Cilice – Esoteric Atavism
Release Date: 1st July 2022
Label: Iron Bonehead Productions
Black Cilice with Esoteric Atavism produced one of the best albums of his discography dedicated to raw black metal. In this album, with vicious riffs, the intensity of old-school black and an all-that grudge combine old-school passion with atmospheric aesthetics. Except for the first track of Esoteric Atavism, the subsequent tracks are more melodic, even if the characteristic lo-fi and contorted vocals do not deviate from the raw standard of Black Cilice’s mark modesty aside should continue to be. Enjoy with pleasure this set of intense and cold songs; I recommend it.
