Review by Felin Frost

Here comes the one-man project from Central Greece, Waves Idle Symmetry. Founded by the mysterious G.K. (Vocals, Guitars & Bass) and accompanied by Nick Samios on drums, the duo delivers a black metal that reveres Greek culture with Finnish touches.
Waves Idle Symmetry, through its debut E.P., Thalassa is on the way to consecrate itself between the excellent bands from Greece.

Don’t be fooled by the cover. We don’t see many black metal albums this colourful, representing a modern art of this nature. Strangeness aside, this E.P. draws attention. Firstly, the cover leaves that curiosity to hear about this endeavour. From the first track, the impression is good.
Thalassa presents dynamism, wilderness and savage impetuosity. The guitar is the highlight of this E.P., full of riffs that are sometimes simple and pleasant with strong and aggressive touches, always accompanied by the drums expressed with determination and skill. As simple as it appears, this work deserves attention. It’s almost 22 minutes unfold in a very palatable and unpretentious way and an E.P. that is easily put on repeat and listened to several times.

The four tracks that make up Thalassa respect the regular time of 4 to 6 minutes. In reality, this E.P. could easily have ventured into a full-length. But yes, I feel a tone of experimentation for future deeper projects. Who knows, in 2023, Waves Idle Symmetry will give us its first full-length.

Thalassa was recorded at Made In Hell studio, engineered, mixed and mastered by David Prudent.

Good album! Give it a spin and support the art!
