Licht- und Schattensaiten (Light and Shadow Strings) is the solo project of German multi-instrumentalist and composer Stefan Johannes, founded in 2001 in Traunstein, Bavaria. Stefan is a prolific musician with a sizable portfolio. This month, specifically on June 3rd, he released his 12th work entitled Wetterleuchten (Weather lightning).

Licht- und Schattensaiten explores themes related to nature and climatic events allied to subjective experiences provided by many natural phenomena that expand the consciousness, only providing for those free from the chaotic and blind social corral.

Stefan and his solo project, Licht- und Schattensaiten, prove that his music is differentiated and versatile with each release. So is Wetterleuchten, carved mainly on experimental black metal, consists of five long tracks that unfold in 47 minutes.

The peculiarity is the fluidity of the music not tied to the technique and coherence that we often find. Instead, it is somewhat spontaneous and surreal. Atmospheric and melodic aspects involved Wetterleuchten. The album’s tracks bring the typical black metal tension, loads of distortion, ethereal moments, dark vocals, engaging choral singing and surprising melodies.

In each track, we find new musical facets and emotions. The album faithfully translates the lights and shadows provided by the theme. Prasselndes Nass, one of my favourite tracks, opens with the acoustic guitar bringing a touching melodicism. It is a melodic track, strong and describes all the magnificence and beauty of nature.

Wetterleuchten is an interesting album, it escapes the standards without losing the essence and reveals the soul of this artist who is dedicated to one of the few things of value in this world, nature and its subliminal messages.

The album was composed and recorded from December 2021 to February 2022 on Ardor on Ubuntu Studio, mixed and mastered in April 2022. The cover image (oil on canvas) was created in March 2022, also by Stefan. Released by Feral Age Records in tape with J-Card, which also contains texts, photos and some information.
